Bulgarian kickboxer Dragomir Petrov is fully prepared for one of the toughest challenges of his career – a fight against Japan’s Hirukatsu Miyagi on the SENSHI 31 night later this month. Petrov will be aiming for the biggest and hardest-to-achieve goal of the event – the championship title of the organization’s Grand Prix tournament in the 70 kg division.
On May 30, at 7:30 PM EET /12:30 PM EST/ on the stage of the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the experienced local fighter will face a tough opponent with serious experience and an aggressive style in his opening bout – the Japanese fighter who also competed at the previous SENSHI 30 event.
“I have fought opponents like him before, and I do not think there will be anything that can surprise me,” Petrov said during an interview on the morning TV show “Bulgaria Sutrin”.
According to him, the key to achieving the major victory will be concentration, discipline, and proper energy management, as the tournament format includes up to three fights within just a few hours.
Speaking to Bulgaria ON AIR television, Petrov also commented on the difficult moments in professional sports, including losses, which he believes are an inevitable part of every high-level athlete’s journey. He emphasized that the most important thing is to quickly analyze mistakes and move forward even more motivated.
His family, personal goals, and the desire to be a role model for young people play a major role in his motivation. The fighter shared that he wants to prove that even someone coming from a city without strong kickboxing traditions, such as Sliven, can achieve major success through consistency and strong character.
As part of his preparation for the upcoming lightweight Grand Prix tournament of the international SENSHI organization, he trains twice a day while carefully balancing workload and recovery.
In addition to focusing on his athletic career, Dragomir Petrov also works with children and amateur athletes in the gym, passing on his professional kickboxing experience. He believes that combat sports build discipline, responsibility, and character – qualities that are increasingly lacking among young people today.
