Zehao Zhang is the first Chinese fighter to step into the arena of SENSHI 31 Gladiators. The event will take place on May 30 at 7:30 PM at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv, where fans will experience an evening filled with adrenaline, emotions, and spectacular clashes. Among the most anticipated highlights of the program is the Grand Prix tournament in the 70 kg category, where he will face the tough challenge of fighting for the title.
In a special interview for the combat sports media outlet Boec.bg, Zhang shared that martial arts have been part of his life since childhood, with his country’s national heroes Jet Li and Jackie Chan serving as major inspirations for him.
Having already gained enough experience Zehao Zhang will fight against Marian Lapusneanu. His time of his international appearances have built discipline, character, and a strong spirit. The athlete believes he will also perform well at SENSHI 31 Gladiators. His preparation includes kickboxing and MMA training, while actively working on grappling, strength, and conditioning. His favorite part of the training process remains stand-up fighting and striking techniques.
According to Zhang, physical and mental preparation go hand in hand, and even when the body is exhausted, a person must maintain a strong spirit and willpower. The most important quality of a true champion is persistence and the ability to never give up.
For the Chinese fighter, every match is valuable experience, but he is most proud of his provincial kickboxing championship title. In the future, he wishes to face the fighter known as “Mr. SENSHI” – Atanas Bozhilov.
Zhang is excited for his first visit to Bulgaria and Europe and cannot wait to encounter the level of the fighters and the atmosphere of SENSHI 31 Gladiators. He shared that even if he were not competing professionally, he would still be connected to martial arts as a coach working with children.
The Chinese athlete also revealed some interesting facts about himself – he loves spicy food, has many tattoos, and finds motivation in the advice of his coaches. He offered valuable advice to young fighters: “Do not be afraid to step into the ring.”
According to Zehao Zhang, the Grand Prix format is one of the toughest challenges in combat sports. Fighters need to distribute their energy properly in order to be ready for three difficult fights in a single evening.
Zhang believes that: “When you enter a fight with an empty mind and without expectations, you can be completely focused on your opponent”. This is exactly the approach he will try to apply at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv.
The 70 kg category is his favorite division, and he expects high level matches in the tournament. He also promised an exciting spectacle: “I have never been to Europe before, and I want to put on a great show. Expect exciting fights.”
