Among the fighters making their debut in the main bracket of the SENSHI 32 Grand Prix on July 11 is Ireland's Joshua Akingbade. Ahead of his first appearance in the SENSHI professional ring, Akingbade spoke about his ambitions, the confidence with which he enters the tournament, and why he is convinced that he will be the one leaving with the trophy.
The 23-year-old Irish champion in two weight divisions and winner of the Battle of Barock 2026 tournament will face Ali Yuzeir in the opening round of the competition. The winner of the bout will take the next step toward the final and the SENSHI Middleweight Grand Prix (up to 85 kg) title.
Speaking exclusively to Gong.bg, Akingbade discussed his intensive preparation for the tournament on July 11 at the beach arena in Varna, Bulgaria, and his upcoming clash with Bulgarian kickboxer Ali Yuzeir.
Joshua, you're about to make your SENSHI debut against Ali Yuzeir. What's your message to your opponent?
I'll be very clear—I will do everything I can to knock him out. I'm here to win.
This is an elimination tournament featuring a strong field of fighters. Do you believe anyone can stop you?
Not a chance. I don't believe anyone in this tournament can stop me.
What is your biggest weapon that you'll showcase in this tournament?
My power. On top of that, I apply constant pressure on my opponents and never give them time to feel comfortable.
What would a victory in the international SENSHI promotion mean to you?
It would prove that all the sacrifices, hard training, and dedication have been worth it.
Many fighters say talent is the most important factor. Which do you value more—talent or discipline?
Discipline. Talent is valuable, but without consistency, hard work, and dedication, you can't reach the top. Discipline is what makes you better every single day.
Which personal quality do you believe has been the biggest reason for your success so far in your professional career?
My attitude toward training. I work extremely hard every day and pursue my goals with complete commitment and determination.
What is your ultimate goal in combat sports?
I want to become one of the best fighters in the world, win the biggest titles, and build a great future for myself and my family.
Why should the fans believe that you'll be the one leaving SENSHI 32 Grand Prix with the trophy?
Because I gave absolutely everything during my preparation for this tournament, and I know I'm good enough. I've prepared exceptionally well, I believe in my abilities, and I've done everything necessary to be in peak condition. Now it's time to prove it in the ring.
