This Saturday, the International Fight Gala SENSHI 31 Gladiators will transform the Ancient Theatre of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, into a true open-air gladiatorial arena. In addition to the spectacular super fights, the event will feature the highly anticipated SENSHI Grand Prix in the 70 kg division – a direct elimination tournament where only one of the eight contenders will claim the trophy.
One of the opening bouts of the SENSHI Grand Prix lightweight bracket will see Romanian champion Marian Lapusneanu take on Chinese newcomer Zehao Zhang. The two fighters will meet on May 30 in the arena of the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where eight elite competitors will battle for the lightweight championship title. Marian Lapusneanu will step into the SENSHI ring for the fourth time, bringing with him an impressive record of three victories and no defeats in the international promotion. The Romanian is a multiple-time winner of the Colosseum Tournaments between 2020 and 2023, Romanian Kickboxing Champion, and holder of the DFS title in 2023. His experience on the big stage and proven abilities make him one of the favorites for a strong performance in the tournament.
Standing across the ropes will be the ambitious Chinese fighter Zehao Zhang, who is set to make his SENSHI debut. Although this will be his first appearance under the lights of the international promotion, he has already proven his quality by becoming a provincial champion in China and has earned the opportunity to enter the main bracket of the prestigious Grand Prix tournament. For Zhang, this is a chance to make a statement on the international stage and show that he can challenge established names such as Lăpușneanu.
The clash between the Romanian fighting school and China’s kickboxing traditions promises a high-paced, technical contest with significant stakes from the very first round. The winner will advance in the quest for the historic SENSHI Grand Prix 70 kg title, while the loser will see their dream of lifting the trophy come to an end at the very start of the competition.
On Saturday, May 30, the main entrance of the historic arena will open at 6:30 PM for the most eager fans. Please note that the entrance to the Ancient Theatre from Tsar Boris III Obedinitel Boulevard will not be operating at that time. The SENSHI action will officially begin at 7:30 PM EET /12:30 PM EST/, as the Bulgarian city Plovdiv immerses itself completely in the spirit of the gladiators.
